About the Package
A picture, it is said, is worth a thousand words — exactly
the idea behind this book, a compilation of 10 award-wining films
on environment, by some of India’s most talented green filmmakers.
Films act as an effective, interesting and interactive medium to
disseminate information related to some of the most pressing environmental
issues in today’s time. This package of 10 green films will
be given to 10,000 schools, to help impart environmental education
to students. Environment today has been made an important part of
the school curriculum to ensure that school kids get familiar with
contemporary environmental issues and challenges. These green films
will further supplement to this cause of making students familiar
with the burning environmental issues.CMS chose the medium of films,
to convey the importance of living in harmony with nature and to
affect, educate and sensitise them on the fact that our skewed race
for development is eroding the source of our origin and sustenance
– nature. This is the message being sought to be conveyed
by the 10 documentary and animation films. By distributing these
films, CMS has sought to create a package on topical environmental
issues, for schools countrywide.
This first national attempt will empower schools with curriculum
aide necessary to provide quality environmental science education
experience.
The package contains films, both in Hindi and English, to suit
different requirements. The booklet has brief summaries, which highlight
the subject and message of each film — the urgency to conserve,
protect and preserve our environment and adopt eco-friendly measures
in our daily life.
The package showcases the amazing attempts made by the filmmakers
to bring such issues to life. They have traversed the daunting,
scorched dry terrain of Rann of Kutch to capture the life of the
Wild Asses and the Western Ghats, to show how this unique biodiversity
is being ravaged by man. The filmmaker looks out of his window to
discover a magical world of birds and, on a parallel track, telescopes
the issue of global warming.
The lens sweeps wide and clear on environmental issues, and the
book binds these images, hoping to inspire all who read the book
to view the films and wake up to environmental conservation, right
now.
