An Expression on the State of Our Environment!

The CMS Environment is happy to present the book, “Greening Young Minds… Towards A Better Future”, another small step in its efforts to sensitise people towards 21st century’s most critical issue – environmental conservation.

Children need to be initiated into environmental education at a very young age, if we want environment to occupy top slot in their lives. It is imperative they understand that humans and the natural environment need to be treated alike — with love, care, compassion and respect — because their lifecycles are interlinked. Hence this package is developed. The package showcases 10 green films, made by some very talented Indian directors, on pertinent issues — pollution, conserving wildlife, protecting forests, e-waste and global warming, among many such multi-dimensional topics.

CMS, among the various facilities it offers, is also an audio-visual resource centre on green films supported by the Ministry of Environment and Forests. It houses approximately 3000 films on varied environmental issues and also has a dedicated website where those interested could read more about the films and purchase them online. CMS has always found immense support and encouragement from the partners in its “green” ventures, such as the CMS VATAVARAN – Environment and Wildlife Film Festivals and now, this book. We cherish this association with the partners, which allows us to pursue our “green” objective of raising environmental awareness more extensively.

Ravaging forests, killing wildlife, polluting the environment is the skewed path to development, the consequences of which we reap today, as we battle climate change. We need to bring environmental concerns to page 1 of newspapers and to the top of agenda of our decision makers, so that results trickle down.

And, all this can happen only if we start walking the path of sustainable living, today; hence, the importance of this package for students is to help them choose the right path.
