Communication is integral to the process of development and change. In many areas it supports development activity and in some others it is an independent capital investment for individual and community empowerment and efficacy. CMS has been engaged in studying and analyzing communication and media environment in all their dimensions.

In the development communication sector, CMS studies cover communication needs assessment, developing communication strategies, evaluating communication programmes and campaigns, pretesting messages and designing social marketing strategies. In the recent past, CMS has taken on board the emerging ICT for Development. In the area of business communication, CMS undertakes studies in advertising and brand communication trends, viewership and readership surveys.

CMS also works with national and international partners for gaining a better understanding in cross-cultural issues in research and communication. Over the last decade CMS has been collaborating with School of Communication Studies, Ohio University. In 2005, CMS has signed a contract with Annenberg School of Communication, University of Southern California for Research Exchange Programme.

CMS contributes to fill the vast training needs in the fields of research and communication including behaviour change communication. In this effort, CMS utilises its vast repertoire of research, project knowledge and experienced human resource. CMS has a dedicated Training Academy.

CMS attempts to contribute to evolution of communication and media policies. This engagement takes the form of independent research and publications, policy consultation events and creating platforms for experts and stakeholders interaction.
